On UroToday, Dr. Potts discusses her work within the field of pelvic pain and specifically men suffering from Urological Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndromes (UCPPS) and how it is commonly misdiagnosed. Dr. Potts stresses the need to think beyond the prostatitis classification system and instead consider pelvic pain symptoms and it's multiple causes and contributors.
Dr. Potts has been invited to speak at the annual Texas Urological Society (TUS) meeting, to be held in San Francisco, CA on June 27-29, 2019. The objective of the TUS Annual Meeting is to apply updated knowledge of latest urological procedures, explain new and relevant updates in urology, and optimize outcomes of treatment of various cancers involving urology.

There is a misconception about the tango dancer leaning against her partner. This is in fact an illusion, for in order to follow his lead and to perform figures with agility, she must have her own axis and strong balance. Paradoxically, the dance can only be effectively transmitted through a dancer who owns her responsibility to the performance. She is by no means passive nor oppressed. Off the dance floor, this axis is developed through discipline and integrity. Such an evolution can only develop through accountability. Followers are just as accountable as their leaders.
Sadly, when it comes to patient care, the business of medicine has become an excuse to blame the system. In this metaphor, I am placing institutions and insurance as the lead and the doctor as the follower. It is time for doctors to own their axis and integrity, and to stop succumbing to the leadership's emphasis on financial results.
